How to Sell

For advice on selling property in our auctions, please contact our staff who will be pleased to help you.

You may bring your property, or photographs if the property is not portable, directly to our offices where our representatives will give you preliminary auction estimates and advice. There is no charge for this service, but we request that you telephone ahead for an appointment.

You may also send one or more clear photographs of each item or a representative group of items if the property is from a large collection, and representatives will provide a free preliminary auction estimate which is subject to a revision after first-hand inspection. Please be sure to include dimensions, any maker’s or artist’s marks or signatures, medium, physical condition and any other relevant information known to you, such as provenance, if applicable.

We are happy to make visits to your home, office or bank if the consignment warrants this. CooperOwen representatives are available to travel to the location of the property, but provision of this service is entirely at our discretion and may incur a charge to you.

Seller’s Commission

There is a commission of 17.5% of the hammer price of each lot sold through CooperOwen.

Insurance

Insurance is charged at 1.5% of the hammer price. If you do not require your property to be covered by our insurance, please inform us in writing at, or prior to, consignment.

Other fees, such as illustration fees specific marketing costs, advertising etc, will be discussed with the consignor in advance or detailed in the receipt you will receive from us when you consign your property for sale.

Unsold Fees

There is a fee of £8.50 (plus UK VAT) for lots that do not sell with an agreed reserve. However CooperOwen reserve the right to charge an unsold commission.

Shipping Arrangements

Consignors must arrange for the delivery of property to CooperOwen at the consignor’s risk and expense. CooperOwen will supply, at a consignor’s request, names of packers and shippers who are independent contractors.
